Euphoniums & Baritones

Solo Euphonium

Jeremy Gilbert

Jeremy joined the band some 18 years ago. He started playing at the tender age of 9 with the Penryn School Band, then progressed onto the senior wing of the band, Saracen Brass. He then moved to Redruth Town under the direction of Derek Johnson. During the day Jeremy is a Specialist Nurse at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. In his spare time he likes spending time with his wife and two sons Sam and Tom. Jeremy's favourite piece of music is Resurgam.

2nd Euphonium

Phil Mathews

Phil Joined the Band on 2nd Euph back in 1995 after playing for Carharrack & St Day, Illogan Sparnon and Redruth Town Bands. He presently works for Remploy as a Production Manager and is married with 2 children. He started his banding on Baritone before moving onto Euph and in his early days when joining Lanner did attempt to play Bass for 1 contest. His most memorable moments in banding are when he played in front of the queen whilst in Redruth Band and on joining such a friendly Band here in Lanner. His hobbies outside the band are computing and Egyptian archeology and his ambition for the future is as he puts it "to get one back on Shaun". His all time favorite piece of music is the test piece Spectrum.

1st Baritone

Matthew Rowe

Matt joined the band in 2004 at the ripe old age of 9. His most memorable banding moment was finishing 6th at Torquay in the regionals. Matt's dad, Richard is our principal cornet and his mum is the band's treasurer. Matt has played for the Camborne training band in the past when he was playing Cornet. He currently also plays Baritone for the Cornwall Youth Brass Band. Matt's favourite test piece is Journey into the Centre of the Earth and favourite concert piece is the Lincolnshire Poacher. Matt's future plans include going to uni. to train as a music teacher. In his spare time he enjoys playing football.

Known to all as Georgie she is another of the three sisters that joined the band along with their mother in September 2009. Georgie is 15 years of age and started playing at the age of 5. Starting on cornet she took up the baritone in 2008. She was a member of the National Childrens Band for 5 years and has just completed her fisrt year in the National Youth Brass Band.
