Winning moves...

Monday 5 November 2012

Following the success at the recent SWWBA contest the band would like to make a few mentions.

Making their debut contest performance for the band was Nessa Cawte on third cornet and Steve Coad on second euph. We also saw the welcome return of Tania Gilbert-Davis on repiano after previously playing with the Band back in the 1990’s (ish).

Jason Smith on BBb bass once again filled the bass section; both Jason and his wife, Tracey have given their time to help out our Academy over the last couple of years which is really appreciated and with him stepping in for contests is a bonus.

Thanks to Jeremy our Band Secretary for making the move from euphonium to second baritone to fill the gap left by Georgie Evans when she headed off to Cory Band and to Georgie’s mum, Paula stepping up to first baritone.

Beyond the players we really really can’t thank Mary Anson enough for enabling the band to rehearse at the Crossroads. Mary is a Trustee of the Band and acquired the Crossroads for development not only for a retirement home but also a ‘conference centre’ to improve the care given to our aging population. The Band benefited from perfect acoustics in the conference room!

Reading this back it’s like a game of chess; you really do have to be thinking moves ahead. And that is where the biggest thanks has to go, Mr Stuart Chappell for playing that perfect match, the Grand Master with another check mate!
