Annual awards presentation 2010

Both playing and committee members enjoyed an evening at the Tehidy Golf Club on Saturday night where they held their Annual Dinner & Dance.

After an enjoyable meal and speeches by both the chairman Lee Rouse and the Musical Director Stuart Chappell the bands annual awards were presented. This years performance of the year went to our Solo Baritone player Matt Rowe for his consistency in performing his solo ‘Blaydon Races’ throughout the summer season and the award for Most Improved Player went to Nicky Thomas our 2nd Horn player who after a number of years took up playing again about 18 months ago.

A new award this year which has been created by the playing members of the Band is the Alison Farr Memorial Shield in memory of Alison who passed away earlier last year. This recipient of this award was voted for by the members of the band and is awarded not only for their playing abilities but for their overall commitment to the band and work that they do behind the scenes which can range from anything from organising transport for a contest to arranging a social night out for the Band. The winner of this award was Richard Rowe who is the bands Principle Cornet player. The final award of the evening was the ‘Bandsman of the Year Award’ which was this year presented to Shaun Jenkin our Solo Bb Bass player. He was chosen for the award by the musical director for his overall commitment to the band over both the past and previous years to that whilst the band was going through a rebuilding exercise after losing a number of key players.

After the awards were handed out the band then relaxed for the evening to the sounds of Karaoke featuring a number of players from the band both male and female alike.
