Percussion

Timpani

Simon Wills

Otherwise known as Rex, Simon joined the band in 2002, playing bass trombone. He then moved on to Bb Bass before finding his 'calling'  by becoming one of our percussion section. His hobbies include volleyball and motorbiking. His favourite piece of music is Army of the Nile. Rex's most memorable banding moment was winning the Class A section with Redruth Town Band at Bugle Contest in 1983 and playing in the square afterwards.

Tuned Percussion

Carrie Fisher

Carrie has been playing drums since 2007. She first started playing in a school Rock band and more recently has been learning to read and understand music  to gain more experience in all types of percussion. Carrie's favourite test piece is "Sounds" by John Golland and favourite concert piece is Ray Farr's arrangement of "Toccata in D minor". Her favourite moments while she has been in the band are finishing 3rd at the SWBBA contest (playing her favourite test piece) and being awarded Most Improved player at the 2011 dinner and dance. Carrie loves the social side of the band and is most happy when she is either drumming or out with the many friends that she has, both in the band and at school.

Drums

Andrew Tellam

Andrew started playing percussion over 25 years ago having originally played cornet with Camborne Youth Band. He chose to change to percussion as he says that there is nothing more satisfying than hitting inanimate objects such as drums, cymbals and bass players.  Andrew joined Camborne Town Band on percussion in 1985 and has played in prestigious venues all over the country, this includes 11 appearances in the National Championships at the Royal Albert Hall and a performance at the European Gala concert.  He also has a number of television and radio performances to his credit including BBC Songs of Praise and one of the concert highlights was playing with Tristan Fry, the percussionist with the rock group, Sky.   Andrew is delighted to return to Lanner after a break to compete a masters degree and is really enjoying the playing and the social aspects of the band, not least as his wife Cherie and son Josh are also involved.   He does not have a single favourite piece of music but generally likes all of the big test pieces and anything that has loud percussion parts.

Josh Tellam

Josh is the son of percussionist Andrew, who is the first to say that Josh is probably the better player! Josh only started playing drums in February 2009 and has already passed his Grade 2 drum kit examination with a distinction and is now working towards his Grade 7.

Josh was not originally really interested in Brass Bands despite the best efforts of his mum and dad to get him to become involved. However since joining Lanner in August 2009 he has really started to enjoy playing with the band, this has a lot to do with the social life of the band and the fact that everyone has made him very welcome.

Josh's long term ambitions are to travel to Japan and become a geneticist, this is either to cure all diseases or achieve world domination, we are not sure which!
