1st Trombone | Gareth Cottrell Gareth joined the band in 2006, following time playing with Falmouth Town, Stythians and Camborne Town Bands. His most memorable banding moment was playing in the National Finals at the Albert Hall in London. His favourite piece of music is "Jazz "by Philip Wilby. During his spare time Gareth enjoys shotgun shooting and playing golf. At present, Gareth is studying for his masters degree (Looks like Gareth is a very busy chap). In the future Gareth plans to retire. |
2nd Trombone | Paula Evans Paula the mother of the 3 youngest players in the band joined the band in September 2009. She is presently playing trombone but is also a competant (using the term loosely) bass, euphonium, horn, and flugal player. She started playing at the age of 7 under the tuition of John Ridgeon, and in her own words confesses that by now she should be a lot better than she is. Her most memorable banding moment was playing in New Zealand at the New Plymouth Tattoo and being surrounded by the (male) bands of the army, the navy and the Royal Air Force. Paula has played for a number of bands both locally and nationally but unlike her children she was never talented enough to reach the dizzy heights of playing for the National Childrens or the National Youth Brass Bands. In her spare time she classes her hobbies and clay pigeon shooting and polishing her collection of diamonds (tongue in cheek). |
Bass Trombone | Ian Davies Ian joined the Band about 3 years ago after visiting the practice room in an attempt to sell the Band a Set of Brand new Basses (we declined). He is presently playing Bass Trombone for the Band but also feature as one of our Bass Section when called upon. He presently works as a Forestry Officer, athough in his spare time he teaches both brass and reed instruments. He has also played with Bude, Bodmin Town and Halls Oxford Brass Bands and his most memorable moment is playing 'Contest Music' at the Royal Albert Hall in 1982. Outside of banding, Ian enjoys Small Steam Locomotives and running a 20 piece Dance Band. He would like it known though that he is not wholly boring and he also likes woman and a good curry. He says his main ambitions in life are to play more right notes than wrong and continue to concentrate on becoming a full time music teacher. |
